Spice it up

Updated: Oct 30, 2022

It’s all the trend in autumn for pumpkin spiced coffees and lattes from certain high street coffee shops - But with us all feeling the pinch in the cost of living why not make your own and add it to all your favourite drinks.

With the help of The Cheshire Kitchen we have developed our own spice mix which you can change according to your own taste preference of the different flavours we have used.

Pumpkin spice

  • 1 teaspoon ground Cinnamon

  • 1 Teaspoon of ground ginger

  • ½ teaspoon of Mixed spice

  • ½ teaspoon of Nutmeg

  • 200g or brown sugar

Mix all the ingredients together until well blended and Store in an air tight jar. The spice blend can be stirred into instant, or brewed coffee or even hot milk. Given that it made from spices it can be a little dusty so if you don’t like this texture why not try the Syrup recipe below

  • Spices as above

  • 300g of caster sugar

  • 150ml of water

Mix the spice mix and sugar together

Put the water and sugar in a pan with the spices and heat this until the sugar is dissolved

Let the syrup mixture cool and then pass through a fine sieve or tea strainer to leave you with a smooth solution of flavoured syrup.

Store the finished syrup in sterilised bottle or jar for future use

This can be added to hot milk, hot chocolate, hot coffee or why not create your own blend of all 3 flavours together.

Sit back and enjoy!
