As 2024 is upon us and another year comes to an end; many of us will be going out to welcome in the New Year. With this in mind we thought it would be fun to share with you a longstanding tradition which dates back to Ancient Greek mythology based on a fruit which has also been a symbol of hope for many religions and cultures.

In Greece it is traditional to smash pomegranates on people's porches to symbolise a luck filled year ahead. The amount of seeds splattered represents the amounting k you are going to have. Not sure if this works or not but what is for certain are the health benefits of this amazing fruit.

One pomegranate has almost 30 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C, which is about 40% of the daily recommended amount. They also have various other health benefits such as those outlined below:

  • Heart health benefits.

  • Anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Anti-cancer phytonutrients (similar to those of broccoli)

  • Urinary health support.

  • Digestive health benefits

  • Skin health

  • An excellent aid for your immunity,

However, the pomegranate is high in sugar so, like everything, eating them or drinking the juice should be done in moderation.
